Short update on the veg patch and a jigsaw :)

June already ! Less than three weeks to the longest day. That thought is so depressing that it has no place here and we won’t mention it again.

Joe is very proud of this radish. It’s the only thing we’ve harvested so far this year, although we did pick the first two strawberries yesterday and netted them up before the birds spot them !

We managed to plant sweetcorn and squash this week.

Everything we plant has to be protected now from rabbits. Our allotment site must be rabbit paradise, there are so many of them.

Not again !

When Joe escaped from the sweetcorn patch he ran into the polytunnel to show you how tall the tomatoes are now….

IMG_1865 - Copy

…and for Aunty Janet, this is the heritage variety we’re growing this year 🙂

The peas and beans are doing well..

IMG_1881

…but so are the weeds, sadly, because we can’t get the strimmer to start.

IMG_1883

We need a mechanic !!

This is the tidy view of our veg patch. The bit to the left, out of shot, is a head-high jungle.

I hope we’ll be able to show you a neater plot next time.

Thanks for looking in on us 🙂 x

Easter fun & Jigsaw

This morning the Easter Bunny has been busy hiding eggs all over Sashaland,

IMG_1430 (2)

with the help of three little bears who hope there’ll be a few eggs left over for them after the babies have their fun.

IMG_1414 (2)

Now remember not to make it too easy 🙂 ….

IMG_1422

All hidden ?

IMG_1412 (2)

Yes, all hidden 🙂 !

IMG_1411 (5)

Then we can let the babies in !

The babies were into the garden in a flash, squeezing underneath bushes and scuffing their little knees, not minding a bit how much of a mess they made of their nice clean clothes….the most important thing was to find ALL the eggs and not to leave any for the big kids who would come later. It turned out they had inside help too. Little pink Ty Beanie Bear (‘Easter’) offered to tell them where the eggs were in return for a few eggs of his own to keep.

IMG_1436 (2)

We can see you hiding behind that bush, Little Easter ! 😉

I like all the colours…..

IMG_1441 (2)

..but I especially like the gingery ones 🙂

Happy Easter Everyone and the babies hope you all find lots of chocolate !

New kids who’ve joined us in time for Christmas

Until they huddled together for their photo I hadn’t spotted a pattern but now I have 🙂

IMG_0646 (2)

These three girls joined us recently and made friends very quickly.

First is Hazel, re-rooted by Pam Winter Turner and now turning heads with her fabulous tresses.

IMG_0649 (2)

Then Maisie, a 1968 girl, again re-rooted (I’m not sure by whom) and given a fringe, more of a tomboy this one,  and already at home on the allotment…

IMG_0648 (2)

…and then little Baby Cinnamon, a 1980’s baby completely re-imagined by Kelly McCrea Wenarsky…..

IMG_0647 (2)

and a new sister for Baby Shiloh who joined us a few months ago..

IMG_0659 (2)

IMG_0654 (3)

Now we’re all looking forward to seeing who comes to live with us next year…we’ll all have to shuffle up a bit but there’s always room for one more 🙂

Merry Christmas from the new kids xx

Goodbye to Autumn

One last dressing up in Autumn colours before we start to get dressed in our Christmas/Winter best – and introducing the stunning Selma, (on the right) a beautiful re-root by Pam Winter Turner. Click here for their jigsaw …

IMG_0384 (2)

….and while we’re introducing new family members we can’t leave out Mira..my little ebay miracle who arrived looking like this..

and scrubbed up beautifully….

IMG_0258

and had to put up with a hat for a while to tame her fringe..

IMG_0284

and then went through a major operation ..

IMG_0283

to eventually look like this ❤

She’s wearing an outfit that properly  belongs to A Girl for All Time, but it fits her beautifully and I was so happy to find a lovely velvet coat by Frances Trickett at C&S that makes her outfit complete. She says  hello ! and that she’s looking forward to Christmas with her new family and to meeting lots of new friends in May 2018 in Nottingham.

We are delighted to have her here with us !

She also has her very own jigsaw here …

Now Mum needs to get back to the knitting.  I think she needs more shelves for all her knitting books, but in the meanwhile, this is a nice warm place to sit 🙂

When life gives you strawberries…..

It all seems very quiet in here…

20170801_101708

Ah, I thought it wouldn’t last long. Today is strawberry jam day. Not chasing a ball around the park day, apparently.

It smells lovely, but it takes so long…

…and now she needs a cuppa and a biscuit !

I won’t be too much longer……you can’t rush these things. Be a good boy and wait nicely.

Will it ever be time for my walkie ??

20170801_101919

Summer weather.

The last week has been very hot and dry and the kids wanted to go out and have some fun, but first they had jobs to do, of course 😉

20170527_113738

Joe helped by wheel-barrowing manure to the spot where we’re going to grow sweetcorn.

Then it needed raking in before we could dig some holes and plant the little sweetcorn plants.

20170527_120037 It was very hot work. Joe knows he did a great job.

20170527_120637

Meanwhile, getting quite hot and a bit fed up, Caleb had found a really good hiding place in the chives and thought it was about time someone came to look for him.

20170528_180931

When Joe came to find him they both disappeared off somewhere together…and I’m still looking for them. ……

20170528_180116

“She’ll never find us in here…

20170528_180101

..and even better, let’s wear green next time   🙂  “, chuckled Caleb.

After much calling and searching,  much to their amusement, I eventually found them and put them straight to work in the polytunnel. Now that IS a hot job.

The tomatoes and chillies are starting to flower and they need weeding and watering and feeding now.

20170528_181201

The boys set to the task of weeding and Mum filled a watering can with tomato feed.

20170528_181149

“It’s too hot in here. Shall we go outside and play and cool down a bit ?” suggested Joe. Caleb never needs  much persuasion to go and play outside.

The wheelbarrow was cleaned up and pressed into service as a kidmobile.

20170528_175843

First Joe pushed Caleb past the lavender, then Caleb pushed Joe around the potatoes…

20170528_184726

Then Joe pushed Caleb past the strawberries, but got a bit distracted for a second when he saw real, green baby strawberries growing where the flowers had been,

20170528_184849and it only took a moment’s loss of concentration for him to run over a stone and lose control …

20170528_185032

..and send Caleb tumbling right out of the wheelbarrow onto his head..

“Oh sorry Caleb, here, let me help you up. Are you hurt ? ”

“No, it was fun. Let’s go again  ! 🙂 ”

20170528_185334

Lots of turns later it was time to go home. Two tired little boys headed for the car.

“Are you sure you’re ok, Caleb? We’re still best friends aren’t we ?”
